Endothelial Cells
Endothelial cells line the inner wall of blood vessels and form the interface between the intravascular and extravascular compartments. Endothelial cells serve as a selective barrier for the diffusion of cells and macromolecules into and out of the bloodstream. In addition, endothelial cells have the ability to detect shear stress and can manipulate blood vessel diameter and thickness. Endothelial cells are implicated in a number of disease such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic kidney failure.
